LESSON 03 / NEXT STEP / 7 MIN PRACTICE

Build a sound mix with space.

Keep the voice clear while music and effects carry the action.

01

Listen to the layers

Open A little order. The example has narration, an instrumental bed and individual effects on separate tracks. Select a clip to see its gain and timing.

02

Give the voice the center

Start with narration at its existing level. Turn the music down until every word is easy to follow. Use the editor’s music ducking when you want the bed to dip under narration clips.

03

Put the effect on the contact

Zoom the timeline around the disappearing mug. Move the cup sound a frame at a time and listen with the picture. Small timing changes matter more than extra loudness.

04

Finish the edges

Add a short fade to music and trim effects that outlast their action. Listen once on speakers and once on headphones, then export a short test before your final version.

TRY IT YOURSELF

Your assignment.

Make the mug effect quieter but more precisely timed. Keep the narration intelligible all the way through the desk-lift scene.
