LESSON 01 / FIRST CUT / 6 MIN PRACTICE

Cut for the reveal.

Give a visual joke a setup, an escalation and room to land.

01

Start with the promise

Open A little order. Play the first three scenes without touching anything. Notice how the mug disappears before the desk does: the film teaches the rule, then makes the rule ridiculous.

02

Find the change

Select “The desk takes flight” on the Scenes track. Move the playhead to its first frame. This is the turn. Keep the action visible before adding more words.

03

Change one pause

Trim the previous scene by half a second, then close the gap by moving the following scenes earlier with snapping on. Play from the earlier beat. Compare the rhythm; undo if the original gives the action more room.

04

Let the last image finish

Keep the last caption brief. Fade the music over the last second and leave the final image visible long enough to register. Save a .rothi copy so you can return to your version.

TRY IT YOURSELF

Your assignment.

Make two versions with different pauses before the desk lifts. Export the stronger one and say what the extra time did for the joke.
